Hamas may be institutionally weak in governance — loud in voice, manipulative in the malignantly narcissistic manner, for sure, but incapable of maintaining a coherent program and cohesive constituency within its domain. Consequently, and not for the first time, others show up to usurp the Hamas mission. Where the aspiring and production know “there is always somebody better than you” (in some way, lol), it appears the criminal and destructive know the other competition: there is always somebody worse — more criminal, cruel, and vicious — than themselves, and that darker mirror of their own soul may be coming to get them on their own ground.

The appearance of ISIS in Gaza — http://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/4392/isis-gaza – 7/4/2014 — may have the ring of poetic justice if true, but it’s not the justice anyone wants, not even for Hamas.

“We are preparing for a battle against Hamas which will not end within a few days,” said Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon.

The absolute worst thing Israelis and Jews in the Diaspora can do is engage in propaganda, specifically the disingenuous information techniques exploited by enemies.

What I call “The Islamic Small Wars” in which Israel is in inseparable element revolve deeply around the social grammar of family and tribal loyalties and consequent to that the diminishment of integrity as the highest of social values. To put it bluntly, to curry favor — often the favor of thugs — with lies is fine as it may appear to align with perceived personal security and survival. There is in that a civilizational principle that the Jews en masse and the decent and good of humanity must reject outright. To do otherwise, condones, engages in, and encourages evil.

A writer had expressed doubt about the Palestinian “three-fingers campaign” celebrating the kidnapping (later, murder) of three Israeli teens.  The note was to the effect that there may have been some confusion with a sports figure also associated with integer three.

Eva S. Balogh's avatarHungarian Spectrum

Johanna Laakso is a professor in the Finno-Ugric Department of the Institut für Europäische und Vergleichende Sprach- und Literaturwissenschaft at the University of Vienna. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Helsinki where she also taught until 2000 when she moved to the University of Vienna. Besides her native Finnish, she speaks English, German, Hungarian, Estonian, Swedish, Russian, and French. Professor Laakso is known to the readers of  Hungarian Spectrum under the pseudonym Sentrooppa-Santra; she is one of our frequent contributors on linguistic topics. I’m very grateful that Professor Laakso agreed to write a post on the new  Magyar Nyelvstratégiai Intézet (Hungarian Language Strategy Institute), the brainchild of Viktor Orbán. It is time to learn something about this attack on yet another academic discipline. Surprisingly little can be read about the issues involved in the Hungarian press. Professor Laakso’s article makes it all clear. The current Hungarian government’s penchant for changing everything has even reached language…

A federal judge has cracked down on the travel and computer activities of a Dearborn cleric popular worldwide with ISIS, the extremist militant group that announced last week the formation of an Islamic state in Iraq and Syria.

U.S. District Judge Gerald Rosen ordered that Ahmad Jebril, 43, stay within the eastern half of Michigan and tell his probation officer about his activity on social media accounts, if requested.

I know you don’t condone them.

ISIS and others nonetheless believe themselves Muslim, the tip of the spear of Islam, and reference related lore and literature to justify what they do, and there is no gray about what they do. We are all — Muslim, Christian, and Jewish and everyone else, including Chinese nonbeliever oligarchs 🙂 — are looking for ways to shut them down, and that needs must include addressing their intellectual engines as well as arms supply, financing, organization, outreach, etc.

Pakistan’s military has been hard at work on this: http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/world/pakistan/Taliban-fighters-cut-hair-and-beards-to-flee-Pakistan-army-assault-in-North-Waziristan/articleshow/37894679.cms

These “Islamic Small Wars”, as I call them, will not end in the field. They have to end in the minds of those who most propel them, and those souls cannot be reached with drones and tanks and infantry.

News from the Pakistani theater.

Hundreds of Taliban fighters rushed to disguise themselves with new haircuts in the weeks before a Pakistani army assault, it has emerged, as refugees revealed details of life under the militants — and their taste for imported luxuries.

Why are 6000 Shia children killed by Deobandi terrorists in Pakistan less worthy than Palestinians or drone victims? http://lubpak.com/archives/231236

Should Shia Muslims continue to support the same Hamas that does not even consider them Muslims, the same Hamas that is now taking an active part in Shia and Sunni Sufi massacres in Syria with its open alliance with Al Qaeda, Jabhat Al Nursa and the organ-eating Free Syrian Army?

Back to the present, in July 2014, and here’s a disturbing news. While ISIS Salafi Wahhabi and Deobandi terrorists are detonating Sunni Sufi and Shia shrines, Shia mosques and Christian churches in Iraq and Syria, Palestian takfiris are busy in helping the ISIS terrorists. – See more at: http://lubpak.com/archives/316915#sthash.TFdEB0kv.dpuf

Hebrew culture has place x calendar and customs x language x religion and because of traditional tribal transmission, it’s generations may be schooled in “the old ways” with not much discomfort. However, large groups have converted, and in modern times the Abuydaya — http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abayudaya — converted as a whole people and continue in the path.

Dispersion (into the “Diaspora”) alters land and language relationships, and, indeed, Jewish identity has suffered recession through intermarriage and national identification in other lands. Nonetheless, as may Shia, Jews worldwide have long taken measures to remain Jews, rejecting conversions en masse, maintaining language knowledge and customs, and sustaining identification with the Land of Israel.

As such affiliations go down to the bone, part of the genocidier’s motivation wants sheer sadistic control and humiliation, i.e., more than eliminating the presence of this “other”, the murderer has in mind the theft of the humanity and dignity of the same.

Some thoughts — probably most of mine — just get too long for Facebook.  A thread wants for a few words, not whole essays.  The above was on the way toward discussing the Islamic overlay over many distinctive cultures across feudal-to-modern history.

My parents did not make me a Jew.

God did.

Imagine, however, the insecure parent obsessed with power and control over progeny.  Trust is given, but dependence must be cultivated, and in the trust-me voice of the father, the child is told ” . . . the child is not strong enough in the early stages of its life to resist or oppose its parents”, which presumptuously impugns the authority of other parents, but the writer being a parent too, either in fact or in spirit, may not be immune from his own declaration.

Epigram

Hillel the Elder

"That which is distasteful to thee do not do to another. That is the whole of Torah. The rest is commentary. Now go and study."

"If I am not for myself, who will be for me? If I am not for others, what am I? If not now, when?"

"Whosoever destroys a soul, it is considered as if he destroyed an entire world. And whosoever that saves a life, it is considered as if he saved an entire world."

Oriana Fallaci
"Whether it comes from a despotic sovereign or an elected president, from a murderous general or a beloved leader, I see power as an inhuman and hateful phenomenon...I have always looked on disobedience toward the oppressive as the only way to use the miracle of having been born."

Talmud 7:16 as Quoted by Rishon Rishon in 2004
Qohelet Raba, 7:16

אכזרי סוף שנעשה אכזרי במקום רחמן

Kol mi shena`asa rahaman bimqom akhzari Sof shena`asa akhzari bimqom rahaman

All who are made to be compassionate in the place of the cruel In the end are made to be cruel in the place of the compassionate.

More colloquially translated: "Those who are kind to the cruel, in the end will be cruel to the kind."

What I Have Said About the Jews

My people, not that I speak for them, I nonetheless describe as a "global ethnic commune with its heart in Jerusalem and soul in the Land of Israel."

We have never given up on God, nor have we ever given up on one another.

Many things we have given up, but no one misses, say, animal sacrifice, and as many things we have kept, so we have still to welcome our Sabbath on Friday at sunset and to rest all of Saturday until three stars appear in the sky.

Most of all, through 5,773 years, wherever life has taken us, through the greatest triumphs and the most awful tragedies, we have preserved our tribal identity and soul, and so shall we continue eternally.

Anti-Semitism / Anti-Zionism = Signal of Fascism

I may suggest that anti-Zionism / anti-Semitism are signal (a little bit) of fascist urges, and the Left -- I'm an old liberal: I know my heart -- has been vulnerable to manipulation by what appears to me as a "Red Brown Green Alliance" driven by a handful of powerful autocrats intent on sustaining a medieval worldview in service to their own glorification. (And there I will stop).
One hopes for knowledge to allay fear; one hopes for love to overmatch hate.

Too often, the security found in the parroting of a loyal lie outweighs the integrity to be earned in confronting and voicing an uncomfortable truth.

Those who make their followers believe absurdities may also make them commit atrocities.

Positively Orwellian: Comment Responding to Claim that the Arab Assault on Israel in 1948 Had Not Intended Annihilation

“Revisionism” is the most contemptible path that power takes to abet theft and hide shame by attempting to alter public perception of past events.

On Press Freedom, Commentary, and Journalism

In the free world, talent -- editors, graphic artists, researchers, writers -- gravitate toward the organizations that suit their interests and values. The result: high integrity and highly reliable reportage and both responsible and thoughtful reasoning.

This is not to suggest that partisan presses don't exist or that propaganda doesn't exist in the west, but any reader possessed of critical thinking ability and genuine independence -- not bought, not programmed -- is certainly free to evaluate the works of earnest reporters and scholars.
