The revelations come from new letters added to the 22,000 internal ISIS documents Sky News leaked in March. Before the Syrian troops regained control of the ancient city of Palmyra earlier this year, the Syrian government arranged a deal to allow ISIS to “withdraw all heavy artillery and anti-aircraft machine guns from in and around Palmyra to [the] Raqqa province.

BackChannels has been supporting the idea that malign and medieval leaders work together, whether directly or indirectly makes no difference, in supporting the feudal image and theater that in turn justifies they stay in political absolute power.  As evidence mounts as regards the incubation of al-Qaeda-type forces and ISIS through the selective bombing of other targets, and as new reportage surfaces with news of collusion between Russian air power and ISIS ground forces, it starts to look like BackChannels got it right in the first place.  From the above cited Daily Caller piece: “ISIS gets a detailed warning of when a strike is scheduled to take place, which allows it to withdraw to an agreed evacuation point.”

The objective of violence is to create chaos and anarchy, to impose additional strains on ruling democratic parties, to eliminate their ablest leaders, to force them to resort to undemocratic measures, and to demonstrate to the public their inability to maintain law and order, leaving the field open to the legal communist party to present itself as the only effective alternative force.

Addendum – On the Russian Spy Angle

From the Awesome Conversation —

While the Kremlin channels jihadis to ISIS, it may also embed spies, so it rids itself of at least a few potential terrorists — or thousands of them — in Russia and sets them up in easily targeted (because it may have also sent in spies) “kill zones” in Syria. Politically, it can promote, vicariously, say, the symphony while “barrel bombing” noncombatant Syrians while making its case for “Assad OR The Terrorists”, and through the Baathist generals who have become ISIS generals, it can display a convenient foil for Khamenei’s Revolutionary Guard, reported as embedded in the more “fiery” Shiite militia, for Tehran’s expansion of influence in Iraq. By doing all of the above, which I believe it has, the familiar post-Soviet axis has reproduced the image of the feudal world that each despotic leader needs to remain legitimate (in the eyes of their followers) in power.

Reports of ISIS beheading Russian spies surfaced in several news reports in December 2015, and similar reportage continued into April 2016.

Search-Russia-ISIS-SpyStories.JPG

Apparently, Russian spies inserted into ISIS may have both signaled ISIS positions to Russian air power as well as warned ISIS troops of impending strikes.

From Correspondence — Journalism Democritized

On the record?

Off the record?

Journalists exercise discretion as part of the business, but most put together stories for broadly distributed publication. The investigative types routinely pull together stories their subjects may not wish to see read anywhere.

That’s “Watergate”.

Ours is a different era.

We have the global “war on terror”; we have our wondrous Internet that wraps the world in new communications, intimate and public, trivial and history changing, friendly for the most part, on occasion discomforting; and we have information-oriented entrepreneurs of every imaginable type, all of whom self-assign and pursue eclectic projects, and they do what they would do if they were free because, in fact, and whatever the combination of funding, motivation, and time available — however they’re put together; however they put it together — they are free and can post thought in innumerable contexts.

In “information space”, you’re representative of both emerged and perhaps emerging types.

Many of my online friends routinely publish in “free press” publications and middle-media blogs sponsored by more established purveyors of news. Relatively few, if any, are picking up money on their virtual print output.

Alas, at similar levels, there are other fauna online: personalities with funny names and little background promoting through their chatyping a familiar and herding or “group-think” yackety-yack — they are the new nemeses, and they are placed everywhere. Be glad you are getting around in real space and spending time with real people . . . .

Doubtless some just “gather it all in” for hours a day.

How has New Media — it’s not so new anymore, actually — changed Everyman’s impression of the greater surrounding world?

In the inbox inside of the first 15 computer-on minutes of the day:

Local: http://www.heraldmailmedia.com/news/breaking/dozens-arrested-in-tri-state-area-in-connection-with-heroin/article_63db763e-143e-11e5-8517-27cfb4462c10.html

From Phyllis Chesler’s conservative feminist voice for liberation: “Op-Ed: The Truth-Teller’s Gulag: The price is high, but the cost of remaining silent far exceeds the left’s swift punishments for telling the truth.”  Arutz Sheva, June 16, 2015.

Without mentioning the Druze, IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Gadi Eizenkot said the authorities were preparing for a possible influx of Syrian refugees and would prevent a potential massacre at the border.

“The reality in the Golan Heights, where internal fighting is near the border with Israel, is of great concern to us, including the possibility we might have to deal with refugees from Syria arriving at the border,” Eizenkot told a parliamentary committee, his words conveyed by a spokesman.

Arutz Sheva Staff.  “IDF Chief Promises to Protect Syria’s Druze from ‘Massacre’.” Israel & Stuff, June 17, 2015.

All day, every day, the world turns up a sea of new information online.  Glance at it, parse it, sift it, comment on it, pass it along, recompile it, even act on it, it’s moving, living, morphing before our eyes.

That’s today’s news — a deeply democratized international gabfest, some very high percentage of which involves passing words along, or in the “listening posts” within the minds of citizen journalists chatting beneath the cover of writing– every man and woman a scribe that would wish to be — swallowed, digested, and saved away for a distant later that need never arrive.

““We are being slaughtered!” she sobbed, her voice raw and worn out, as seen on this parliamentary video. “We are being exterminated! An entire religion is being exterminated from the face of the Earth. In the name of humanity, save us!””

Kurdish MP Vian Dakhil pleading for life before Parliament, August 5, 2014:

One Yazidis showed al-Jazeera a series of text messages received by Yazidis upon the arrival of ISIS, reading: “Where are you going to go? I swear [to] God I will cut you into pieces… We are coming for you, you pig, you enemy of God.”

The Yazidis took the threat seriously. The Washington Post reports that estimates vary from 10,000 to 40,000 Yazidis currently stranded on a mountain above Sinjar, knowing their immediate death awaits them at the foot of the mountain.

Thousands of Yazidis — a Kurdish ethno-religious community — have been trapped on Sinjar Mountain in northern Iraq as they attempt to escape the extremists’ grasp. The sole parliamentary representative of the Yazidis, Vian Dakhil, warned that her small community, which has roots in a 4,000 year-old faith, faces the threat of extermination.

Other religious and ethnic groups, including Christians, Shiite Turkmens and Shabaks, have also recently been displaced since the Islamic State began waging a violent campaign against minorities in the territory it controls.

Yazidis believe in one God and worship seven angels. Melek Taus, known as the Peacock Angel, plays the most important role. Worship of the Peacock Angel is where the label “devil worshipper” stems from. Christianity and Islam view the Peacock Angel as a fallen angel or devil for refusing to bow before Adam. Yazidis interpret this as a test of the Peacock Angel’s commitment to God and see the Peacock Angel as the chief of God’s angels.

David Rubin: Is that then part of it?  This is so savage that partly  . . . you know, everyone keeps saying the images out of Gaza are horrible, which they are, but there’s this definitive narrative   There’s a bomb that drops on something . . .

Nikki DeLoach: It’s a war that we recognize.  That’s how we’ve seen war.  This is not that.  This is savage.  It’s like . . . medieval . . . something you would see on Game of Thrones.”

I doubt any will see the mass beheading of children (as has been reported in relation to the slaughter of Chaldean Christians in Iraq) on Game of Thrones.

An introduction to “Students for Justice in Palestine”:

The Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) today exists as a consortium of campus “clubs” throughout the American and Canadian college systems which work to oppose the existence of Israel and to promote Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions against the Jewish state. There are at least 80 chapters of these clubs on campuses throughout the US and Canada. The SJP goes under other assorted names on some campuses. Names such as Palestine Solidarity Committee or Students for Palestinian Equal Rights are also common.  In Canada, some SJP chapters have adopted the name Students Against Israeli Apartheid (SAIA), or Solidarity for Palestinian Human Rights (SPHR), while others use similar sounding names but advocate for the Palestinian “revolution”or resistance against the Israeli and US governments when they are perceived as allies together against “Palestinian” irredentist goals. The SJP could be said to operate on the campuses in a classic Rico Statute style of infiltration as a method of promoting the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions Movement throughout the USA and Canada via a “grass roots movement.”

“In 2010, Egyptian magazine Rose al-Yusuf reported that Haniyeh paid for $4 million for a 2,500msq parcel of land area in Rimal, a tony beachfront neighborhood of Gaza City. To avoid embarrassment, the land was registered in the name of the husband of Haniyeh’s daughter. Since then, there have been reports that Haniyeh has purchased several homes in the Gaza Strip, registered in the names of his children – no hardship, as he has 13 of them.”

Epigram

Hillel the Elder

"That which is distasteful to thee do not do to another. That is the whole of Torah. The rest is commentary. Now go and study."

More colloquially translated: "Those who are kind to the cruel, in the end will be cruel to the kind."

What I Have Said About the Jews

My people, not that I speak for them, I nonetheless describe as a "global ethnic commune with its heart in Jerusalem and soul in the Land of Israel."

We have never given up on God, nor have we ever given up on one another.

Many things we have given up, but no one misses, say, animal sacrifice, and as many things we have kept, so we have still to welcome our Sabbath on Friday at sunset and to rest all of Saturday until three stars appear in the sky.

Most of all, through 5,773 years, wherever life has taken us, through the greatest triumphs and the most awful tragedies, we have preserved our tribal identity and soul, and so shall we continue eternally.

Anti-Semitism / Anti-Zionism = Signal of Fascism

I may suggest that anti-Zionism / anti-Semitism are signal (a little bit) of fascist urges, and the Left -- I'm an old liberal: I know my heart -- has been vulnerable to manipulation by what appears to me as a "Red Brown Green Alliance" driven by a handful of powerful autocrats intent on sustaining a medieval worldview in service to their own glorification. (And there I will stop).
One hopes for knowledge to allay fear; one hopes for love to overmatch hate.

Too often, the security found in the parroting of a loyal lie outweighs the integrity to be earned in confronting and voicing an uncomfortable truth.

Those who make their followers believe absurdities may also make them commit atrocities.

Positively Orwellian: Comment Responding to Claim that the Arab Assault on Israel in 1948 Had Not Intended Annihilation

“Revisionism” is the most contemptible path that power takes to abet theft and hide shame by attempting to alter public perception of past events.

On Press Freedom, Commentary, and Journalism

In the free world, talent -- editors, graphic artists, researchers, writers -- gravitate toward the organizations that suit their interests and values. The result: high integrity and highly reliable reportage and both responsible and thoughtful reasoning.

This is not to suggest that partisan presses don't exist or that propaganda doesn't exist in the west, but any reader possessed of critical thinking ability and genuine independence -- not bought, not programmed -- is certainly free to evaluate the works of earnest reporters and scholars.
