The two assailants, Uday and Ghassan Abu Jamal, in their 20s, were members of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine.

Four Dead in Jerusalem Synagogue Terror Attack, Victims Named (VIDEO)

What are the ghosts of skyjackers doing back on the front pages of the world’s news?

Along that axis I call “Putin-Assad-Khamenei” (or, possibly more accurately, Khamenei-Putin, given the way wise guys get power over one another), the post-Soviet still pan-Arab socialist whizbang PFLP believes it has a cause worth killing for, and while we can’t see the Big Money that helps move the mouths that incite the crime, one may suspect it’s there: plainly, “Jew hate” cloaks the piratical among leaders, Russia, for the time being excepted although Putin may be working an “anti- anti-Semitism” look-good card as players around the “vertical of power” continue to accrue corrupt treasure for burial or cleaning safely in the rule-of-law west.

For the regime hated by Persians in Tehran, today’s murderous act fits with its promise of the destruction of the “Zionist Entity”, which has been the best cover (by deflection of attention) for thieving on behalf of Ayatollah Khamenei.

It may be broad connecting today’s attack (on the pious before God) with Moscow and Tehran and, by way of suggestion, perhaps others profiting from the promotion of chaos and conflict in the world, but nonetheless — and with mention of the PFLP — today’s act stinks of an old grave dug open and left to foul the air.

Yossi Dagan, the head of media relations for the Samaria Regional Council, filed a formal complaint Tuesday with the Government Press Office (GPO) against a CNN reporter for equating the terrorists involved in the Har Nof massacre with the victims.

According to Dagan, American CNN reporter Ben Wedeman was responsible for the headline describing the massacre under the headline, “Israeli police shot dead two Palestinian civilians” – when, in fact, the shooters were Palestinian terrorists who killed four Jews and wounded eight others as they prayed the morning service before being killed in a gun battle with police.

One of the most shocking aspects of the murderous attack on a Jerusalem synagogue this morning by men with guns and axes is not the attack itself—we’ve seen, from time to time, this sort of sectarian barbarism take place in places like Jerusalem, and Hebron. The most shocking aspect is the wholesale endorsement of this slaughter by Hamas, a group that, during this summer’s war in Gaza, half-succeeded in convincing the world that it wasn’t what it actually is: a group with actual genocidal intentions.

http://www.theatlantic.com/international/archive/2014/11/hamas-shows-its-true-face/382873/ – 11/18/2014.

The first is that Jews can be forgiven for thinking that the world sees them as sacrificial pawns. Today’s victims are of course not the first deaths in the Palestinians’ latest not-quite-intifada. And they were not the first Americans killed either. And they were not the first victims of Abbas’s incitement or his directive to take action against Jews in Jerusalem. The sad fact is that the world regards a certain amount of Jewish blood as the cost of doing business–not worth getting all worked up about.

The word for that is “expendable.” And that’s what the families of victims and those who survived previous attacks understand all too well: their loved ones were expendable to the international community and, most painfully, to the government of the United States of America. A line has now been crossed, apparently, and the Jews under attack are no longer considered expendable. But it’s unfortunate that the line was there to begin with.

If Luther’s theology created a sense of a boundless self, utter liberation of instincts, emotions, thoughts — yet without any political progress towards democracy – Goethe implanted the notion of moral ambivalence, suggesting that in order to achieve one’s goals one would have to succumb to the enchantment of the devil.

FTAC – Take Down that Wall – Comment on Intellectual Poisoning

cultural-political structure, ideology, kleptocracy, politics

Here’s a suggested schematic for the big story behind so much indoctrination. Billionaires –> nationalist / religious state dictators –> control, enforcement, and expansion organizations that include elements that attend to intellectual development and resources, internal and external.

Out of that model and through separable national socialist and Islamist pipelines come old Fatah and Hamas and emerging Jobbik (Hungary) and obvious ISIS. At the evident top: Putin-Khamenei. Behind the scenes: extraordinarily wealth personalities much enriched by criminality in state politics.

The commandeering of intellectual resources, whether targeting the kindergarten or college campus, is a part of sustaining criminal power. Where audience is captive or deeply susceptible, indoctrination and training go deep, so much so that the poison turns the world upside down. Where less area (geopolitical space) is captive, then intellectual skirmishing takes place with perhaps discouraging results.

I think a part of the answer to kind of bigotry and conflict addressed here may be to drive highest-integrity information — most open, tested, reviewed, criticized, most probable, etc. — into otherwise closed societies and the minds that have been kept closed by them. “B” may be living in a world of lies and mirrors that she cannot see for having been deeply manipulated within it. Those who wish for peace, who want an honest future (and it may be different than immediately contemplated) may have to disassemble that intellectual wall.

A racket’s a racket.

Ali Khamenei

Mojtaba Khamenei

Putin’s Kleptocracy

Gold-flecked ice cream wasn’t part of the picture that Shiite Muslim clerics painted during the Iranian Revolution, when they promised to lift the poor by distributing the country’s vast oil income equally across society.

But more than three decades later, record oil profits have brought in billions of dollars, and some people here are enjoying that decadent dessert. The trouble is, it’s just a small group of wealthy Iranians. Despite the promises of the revolution, many here say the gap between rich and poor has never seemed wider.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/middle-east/irans-rich-eat-ice-cream-covered-in-gold-as-poor-struggle-to-survive/2011/07/20/gIQAYKUmwI_story.html – 8/6/2011.

The economy bears more than a little resemblance to the crony capitalism that sprouted from the wreck of the Soviet Union. The 1979 revolution expropriated the assets of foreign investors and the nation’s wealthiest families; oil had long been nationalized, but the mullahs seized virtually everything else of value–banks, hotels, car and chemical companies, makers of drugs and consumer goods. What distinguishes Iran is that many of these assets were given to Islamic charitable foundations, controlled by the clerics. According to businessmen and former foundation executives, the charities now serve as slush funds for the mullahs and their supporters.

Iran has other lethal secrets besides its nuclear program, now the subject of prying international eyes. Dozens of interviews with businessmen, merchants, economists and former ministers and other top government officials reveal a picture of a dictatorship run by a shadow government that–the U.S. State Department suspects–finances terrorist groups abroad through a shadow foreign policy. Its economy is dominated by shadow business empires and its power is protected by a shadow army of enforcers.

http://www.forbes.com/global/2003/0721/024.html – 7/21/2003.

More than political criminality and cronyism are at play here.

The intellectual subjugation of entire constituencies is thematic throughout the range of the Islamic Small Wars and now in the development of a post-Hitlerian nationalism and national socialism in relation to the Russian nationalist stance on which Putin has relied for popular legitimacy.  Axes of power Khamenie-Putin and Putin-Orban (the same as would have been Putin-Yanukovych had there not been the revolution in Ukraine) and Putin-Assad represent the development and expansion of immense piratical wealth and power far at the expense of ordinary people.

So far, neither the European Union nor the United States nor anyone or anything else has gone so far as to explicate these drifts and relationships for popular overview although with Russia, the articles and books by academics and journalists have produced a handy few volumes for anyone’s home library (more on that later).

FTAC – Comment on Anti-Semitism and Fear

anti-Semitism, language, lying, political psychology

The motivation of anti-Semitic thought relies deeply on lies, not only libels and slanders against the Jews (and others) but also obfuscations and omissions involving speakers and, plainly, invention involving familiar malignantly narcissistic self-aggrandizement. As people like to hide something or to get something — and sometimes what is to be hidden or gotten is small, but sometimes the shame or the theft is large — the related experience of fear, instilling it or suffering it, plays into the language and related behavior as well.

I’ve no need to repeat the lie that prompted the response.  It was dismal, juvenile, scatological.

Hypothesis: The violence may be an offshoot of license, pandering, and provocation produced within circles of the society of the religion. Denials of culpability; preference for a loyal lie — telling or receiving — over an uncomfortable truth; and promotion of exclusivity and supremacist thought obviously reach a certain crowd and a certain kind of person within it who will then act on so many evil and false premises.

While sensitivity to anti-Semitic acts works some like litmus — if the Jews are being attacked, who is next? — the chief victims in the path of this behavior are Muslims. From Gaza to Quetta, if you look, you will see the same violence scaled up to frequent acts of intimidation, murder, and mass murder.

The question was, more or less, do you let the haters participate?

Ah. The Jewish Question. 🙂

This is why I have a difficult time being away from Facebook for even a day.

Anti-Semitism is the gateway drug of bigots and criminals, and addressing it firmly, openly, squarely is a part of the Jewish “healing the world” (Tikkun Olem), a part of contemporary and decent governance, and a part of real political revolution and human progress and is itself anti-devolutionary.

In U.S. realspace and realpolitik, we protect our bigots. 🙂 They’re free to march, run web sites, and talk trash. They are also treated as marginal people and socially marginalized because the vast majority of the nation is intellectually, politically, and socially wired otherwise. Although pressures spinning off the Brotherhood and Hezbollah movements, the Wahhabi influence, and the Islamic Small Wars in general have a re-tribalizing (“circle-the-ethnic-wagons” effect for everyone), we’re still Americans who work with one another by custom and law without regard for “race, creed, color, or religion”.

Modern Pakistani drive and medieval Pakistani reality are contextually different, but if the want is the want of a modern state: stand up now. Three points:

1. Refuse to tolerate the intolerant.
2. Channel the retrogressive away and elsewhere.
3. IF you want to read Tarek Fatah’s _The Jew is Not My Enemy_ 🙂 and to go on to have an extended talk about anti-Semitism, let’s create a forum space specifically for that.

As mentioned, the black flags will get into [closed forum] and attempt to do their thing: do not let them get away with their criminality.

FTAC – An Observation on Integrity in Scholarship on the Middle East Conflict

anti-Semitism, middle east conflict, scholarship

Integrity counts and truth matters and the two integrate with honest scholarship. “Simply put, the Jews fleeing Europe and the atrocities of Nazism, found a home in the mid-1940s in the newly-created State of Israel, while the Palestinians lost theirs.” It’s not true. It’s stated as true because it’s believed, easily comprehended, and perhaps troublesome to actually independently research. Even intending to “get into the books” may be complicated by questions like “how far back does one go?” Or “what should be taken into account and what dismissed?”

Zionism responds to centuries of European persecution, and in fact discrimination that targeted Muslims along with Jews. The leveraging of religious passion and supersessionary argument account for that (the Church has had its institutional subscription building and subscription-taxing interests too) as does ethnic minority status outside of one’s homeland.

Modern Zionism is also a 19th Century pursuit and the subsequent Jewish immigration and agricultural capitalization of what is today Israel far precedes the rise Nazi Germany.

As regards the refugees of 1948, Efraim Karsh’s volume _Palestine Betrayed_ provides an account perhaps difficult to accept but also broad, fair, and vigorous in research: http://yalepress.yale.edu/yupbooks/book.asp?isbn=9780300127270

The best scholars serve God because the attachment of mind to cultural and personal loyalties produces ephemeral research and dishonest and disingenuous findings. We should not see what we want to see but see what is to be seen, and doing that with clarity, we may then repair some things.

Source of the little bit of grit in this clam’s shell:

http://megaphoneoz.com/?p=9221 – 9/29/2014.

Proposed new approach: adopt empirical methods; adhere to good principles in ethics, morality, and scholarship; and let’s move on to get people settled without rancor in their various spaces and otherwise integrated, independent, and living as the free agents of their own destinies, not as the subjugated pawns of the destinies of piratical dictators or their mafias.

anti-Semitism, Jewish defense

Mr.Weinstein believes that most people respond to passion. Jewish people, he said, need to stop “complaining and whining” and act with passion. Respond to the hate the same way as other groups who have succeeded in changing the culture.

I agree. We need to make anti-Semitic attitudes unacceptable and that requires visible passion. We are passionate in our writings and our speeches-sometimes we need more.

What I Have Said About the Jews

My people, not that I speak for them, I nonetheless describe as a "global ethnic commune with its heart in Jerusalem and soul in the Land of Israel."

We have never given up on God, nor have we ever given up on one another.

Many things we have given up, but no one misses, say, animal sacrifice, and as many things we have kept, so we have still to welcome our Sabbath on Friday at sunset and to rest all of Saturday until three stars appear in the sky.

Most of all, through 5,773 years, wherever life has taken us, through the greatest triumphs and the most awful tragedies, we have preserved our tribal identity and soul, and so shall we continue eternally.

Anti-Semitism / Anti-Zionism = Signal of Fascism

I may suggest that anti-Zionism / anti-Semitism are signal (a little bit) of fascist urges, and the Left -- I'm an old liberal: I know my heart -- has been vulnerable to manipulation by what appears to me as a "Red Brown Green Alliance" driven by a handful of powerful autocrats intent on sustaining a medieval worldview in service to their own glorification. (And there I will stop).
One hopes for knowledge to allay fear; one hopes for love to overmatch hate.

Too often, the security found in the parroting of a loyal lie outweighs the integrity to be earned in confronting and voicing an uncomfortable truth.

Those who make their followers believe absurdities may also make them commit atrocities.

On Press Freedom, Commentary, and Journalism

In the free world, talent -- editors, graphic artists, researchers, writers -- gravitate toward the organizations that suit their interests and values. The result: high integrity and highly reliable reportage and both responsible and thoughtful reasoning.

This is not to suggest that partisan presses don't exist or that propaganda doesn't exist in the west, but any reader possessed of critical thinking ability and genuine independence -- not bought, not programmed -- is certainly free to evaluate the works of earnest reporters and scholars.
