Pray for a Lack of “Proportionately” in Numbers. There will never be an Equivalence of Intent.

Israel is blessed with many creative minds. It has used this gift to cure diseases and win Noble prizes in various fields of science and economics. Because of the vicious neighborhood it resides, it also uses its creativity to build sophisticated offensive and defensive weapon systems.

Israel has a vastly superior military capability than the Palestinian terrorists. The country’s defensive technological edge has helped to greatly reduce their casualty figures in the latest wave of terrorist attacks. In particular, the “Iron Dome” has shielded Israeli civilians from well over 1000 rockets launched from Gaza towards dense population centers. Had the Israeli technology not been in place, the casualty figures would certainly be high.

Would more Israeli deaths somehow make this combat “fair”? Do an “even” number of casualties make each side comparable? Those are distorted views of proportionality.

Would the world somehow be happier with more dead Israeli teenagers on…

An introduction to “Students for Justice in Palestine”:

The Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) today exists as a consortium of campus “clubs” throughout the American and Canadian college systems which work to oppose the existence of Israel and to promote Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions against the Jewish state. There are at least 80 chapters of these clubs on campuses throughout the US and Canada. The SJP goes under other assorted names on some campuses. Names such as Palestine Solidarity Committee or Students for Palestinian Equal Rights are also common.  In Canada, some SJP chapters have adopted the name Students Against Israeli Apartheid (SAIA), or Solidarity for Palestinian Human Rights (SPHR), while others use similar sounding names but advocate for the Palestinian “revolution”or resistance against the Israeli and US governments when they are perceived as allies together against “Palestinian” irredentist goals. The SJP could be said to operate on the campuses in a classic Rico Statute style of infiltration as a method of promoting the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions Movement throughout the USA and Canada via a “grass roots movement.”

Gaza and the ICC – ” . . . could we ourselves be indicted?” Surprising Answer by Ibrahim Khraishi, Palestinian Human Rights Council Ambassador

But in an astonishing admission this week, the Palestinian representative to the UN Human Rights Council, Ambassador Ibrahim Khraishi, suggested that things are not so simple. (Watch the YouTube clip here.)

Speaking on July 9th to Palestinian Authority TV, Khraishi told a very blunt and very inconvenient truth: the rockets fired from Gaza toward Israel are “each and every one a crime against humanity whether it hits or misses, because it is directed at civilian targets.” While he argued that settlements were also a crime against humanity, he challenged the idea that ICC prosecutions would be a one-way street. Noting that he was not a candidate in any elections, and so he could speak the truth, he went on . . . .

Iranian Bullying on TV and in Press: Investigative Journalist Lee Kaplan Faces PressTV Debate with Rania Masri: http://www.presstv.ir/detail/2014/07/16/371482/israel-has-no-right-to-strike-gaza/ – Video 21:30 minutes, 7/16/2014.

Parties engaged in argument tend to their arguments.  Viewers, however, may observe how each uses — or abuses — not only language but their conversational partners, and “talking over” a partner, mouthing the same to near death, is abuse.

Keeping in mind “malignant narcissism”, listen for and to the script — and note how the “transcript” has been altered from the video.

Enjoy!

One more thing: PressTV has taken the above cited clip of almost 22 minutes and reduced the debate portion to just about six minutes, perhaps not even that, of YouTube presentation.  What are they hiding?  You may now do the comparison.

According to the Israeli government, in this latest round of Israel-Hamas combat, Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system has — so far — intercepted 90 percent of targeted incoming Hamas rockets.

Goldberg then claims that this is a war that, “nobody wanted…not even the enemy, Hamas.” This is dangerously naïve. Hamas is a terrorist organization dedicated to the destruction of the State of Israel. There has never been a terror attack against Israel that Hamas has not celebrated or endorsed in some fashion. Not only does Hamas want to launch rockets at our civilians, they want Israel’s response. They want to use Palestinians as human shields to drum up international attention.

To claim that Hamas does not want this war is to ignore what Hamas is: the physical and organizational manifestation of a century old Palestinian hatred towards the Jewish people.

The Turkish Chickpea: Recep “Hummus” Erdogan

“Israel is dropping 400 tons of bombs on our brothers, not chickpeas…to agree with brutality is brutality itself,” said the prime minister.

The Turkish Prime Minister has come to the side of Gaza again, seemingly with a bowl of hummus.

Just over one year after Erdogan extracted an apology from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for the killing of nine “activists” on the Mavi Marmara, Erdogan is pointing an accusing finger at the victim of aggression again.

A satire of the Netanyahu apology to Erdogan is below. Perhaps Erdogan should leave it in his favorites folder.

Epigram

Hillel the Elder

"That which is distasteful to thee do not do to another. That is the whole of Torah. The rest is commentary. Now go and study."

"If I am not for myself, who will be for me? If I am not for others, what am I? If not now, when?"

Oriana Fallaci
"Whether it comes from a despotic sovereign or an elected president, from a murderous general or a beloved leader, I see power as an inhuman and hateful phenomenon...I have always looked on disobedience toward the oppressive as the only way to use the miracle of having been born."

Qohelet Raba, 7:16

אכזרי סוף שנעשה אכזרי במקום רחמן

Kol mi shena`asa rahaman bimqom akhzari Sof shena`asa akhzari bimqom rahaman

All who are made to be compassionate in the place of the cruel In the end are made to be cruel in the place of the compassionate.

More colloquially translated: "Those who are kind to the cruel, in the end will be cruel to the kind."

What I Have Said About the Jews

My people, not that I speak for them, I nonetheless describe as a "global ethnic commune with its heart in Jerusalem and soul in the Land of Israel."

We have never given up on God, nor have we ever given up on one another.

Many things we have given up, but no one misses, say, animal sacrifice, and as many things we have kept, so we have still to welcome our Sabbath on Friday at sunset and to rest all of Saturday until three stars appear in the sky.

Most of all, through 5,773 years, wherever life has taken us, through the greatest triumphs and the most awful tragedies, we have preserved our tribal identity and soul, and so shall we continue eternally.

Anti-Semitism / Anti-Zionism = Signal of Fascism

I may suggest that anti-Zionism / anti-Semitism are signal (a little bit) of fascist urges, and the Left -- I'm an old liberal: I know my heart -- has been vulnerable to manipulation by what appears to me as a "Red Brown Green Alliance" driven by a handful of powerful autocrats intent on sustaining a medieval worldview in service to their own glorification. (And there I will stop).
One hopes for knowledge to allay fear; one hopes for love to overmatch hate.

Too often, the security found in the parroting of a loyal lie outweighs the integrity to be earned in confronting and voicing an uncomfortable truth.

Those who make their followers believe absurdities may also make them commit atrocities.

Positively Orwellian: Comment Responding to Claim that the Arab Assault on Israel in 1948 Had Not Intended Annihilation

“Revisionism” is the most contemptible path that power takes to abet theft and hide shame by attempting to alter public perception of past events.

On Press Freedom, Commentary, and Journalism

In the free world, talent -- editors, graphic artists, researchers, writers -- gravitate toward the organizations that suit their interests and values. The result: high integrity and highly reliable reportage and both responsible and thoughtful reasoning.

This is not to suggest that partisan presses don't exist or that propaganda doesn't exist in the west, but any reader possessed of critical thinking ability and genuine independence -- not bought, not programmed -- is certainly free to evaluate the works of earnest reporters and scholars.
