ISIS has just be-headed a woman in Baquba because she dared to resist being raped. In the process of struggling to defend herself, she actually killed her would-be rapist, an ISIS warrior. The woman was at home recovering from a medical illness.

This is precisely the crime that led to Reyhaneh Jabbari’s execution in Iran at dawn this past Saturday—except that the Iranian regime first jailed and tortured her for five years. Her life might have been spared if her victim’s family had forgiven her, but that did not happen. Her would-be rapist was a former member of Iran’s Intelligence Ministry.

And thus we learn that under Sharia law the penalty for resisting rape is torture and death for women.

The number of political groups that are inclined to support Russia’s president Vladimir Putin is growing, both in the ruling parties of the European countries and in the opposition; from Hungary’s Victor Orban and his ruling Fidesz party to the far-right opposition parties that are performing spectacularly well in national elections, such as Marie Le Pen and her Front National of France. Sympathy and support also comes from Hungary’s Jobbik radical nationalists, the Flemish nationalist Vlaams Belang in Belgium, Greece’s far-right Golden Dawn, Austria’s Freedom Party, and Italy’s Lega Nord, just to name a few.

I would expect Russo-Iranian methods in the development of power and wealth to expand until stopped cold.  The interior mythology in both units, to be clinical about it, have zero incentive to stall or stop aggression on the basis of the political accommodations and levers owned by others.  That implacable will may be buttressed by an equally sociopathic view of humanity.  For evidence of that in addition to Ukraine (and how Yanukovych milked it): Bashar al-Assad’s behavior in Syria.

According to an investigative report published Friday in Yisrael Hayom , Qatar is financing the violence in the capital. Veteran Jerusalem affairs reporter Nadav Shragai wrote that the Islamic rioters who daily attack Jewish visitors and police forces on the Temple Mount are paid by Qatar through the Northern Branch of the Islamic Movement.

The Qatari government and other Islamic funds are transferring vast sums of money to the Islamic Movement’s radical northern branch headed by Sheikh Ra’ed Salah. The Islamic Movement in turn is paying thousands of shekels every month to hundreds of women and men, mainly Muslim Israeli citizens, who call themselves the Murbitat.

FTAC – On Old Political Language

Some language borrows heavily from the Soviet Era, of course, and the same signals that the Russo-Iranian compact revolves around absolute power and wealth, not the spoken word. Whether the nationalism associated with our New Imperial Russia or the Islamism promoted by the Khamenei regime, the two serve themselves and other billionaire partners in their enterprise. The degree to which the upper crusts of less enfranchised constituency sees this may contribute to the degree of resistance encountered by both, which grumbling has been met so far and handily by violent political repression.

______

It’s tricky getting a perception into words, getting the words compressed, and reducing observation to an arrangement of symbols so simple, straightforward, and, most import, true — highest probability of being so — that the message becomes first memorable and then permanently internalized.  The standard of the strength of that signal is its persistence as truth arrived at or tested in multiple ways: it won’t budge not because the receiver believes in some inherent fashion or rule-based preference, but because it really is something honest and armored by its own indestructible integrity.

What if . . . you suspect you might be on the wrong side of right?

Many in the world prefer the false comfort of a loyal lie to the certainty of an uncomfortable truth.  As much ruins them, for who would believe any who would sustain a known falsehood or create new lies by way advisement, dictate, or instruction?  If falsehoods need must be covered by either new lies or willful ignorance, in the end for that cultural cycle, there will nothing true.

I am an Arab Canadian, an organizer of small 2006 Gaza/Lebanon protests, and I am concerned on the rise of antisemitism.

The massive Gaza protests this year, organized by the Workers World Party, were about promoting antisemitism rather than concern for Palestinians. These protests excluded Arab voices so they could be free to demonize Israel. Worldwide, almost each time Syrian Palestinians brought a Free Syrian flag to protests, they were met with harassment, and, in some cases, violence. As one Palestinian woman from the Yarmouk Ghetto of Syria said, “We have been used.”

The truth, however, is Israelis have been quietly giving food to Jordan-based Syrian refugees while Jordan continues to strand them in the desert. While Hezbollah has been beating and even lynching Syrian Palestinians, the Lebanese army bombed refugee tents. Yet, Israel has, in the meantime, been medically treating and saving the lives of Syrians in Israeli hospitals assembled at the Syrian border. The Holocaust Museum hosted the photos of Cesar on the Syrian concentration camps. When the whole world abandoned Syrian Palestinians, Israel was there for them and Turkey took in millions of refugees. Even the Canadian opposition leader, Thomas Mulcair, referred to Assad as a genocidal maniac, but “Save Gaza” activists were silent.
