Islamic Small Wars – Distillations

basic structures, Islamic Small Wars, political psychology

General Conditions

  • Global communications and sub-state mafia and media;
  • Corruption and political criminality at state level and downward;
  • Within-state cultural and social fractiousness, incoherence and insecurity.

Whether Goodluck Jonathan’s Nigeria where Boko Haram runs riot or clannish Somalia where warlords reign and al-Shabaab roams wild, the above-stated conditions apply: the God mob and its criminal associates communicate and recruit at will while the reliability of official power seems questionable and other social variables attenuate the response to the presence of the problem.

General Population Divides

  • Criminal vs Just
  • Despotic vs Democratic
  • Loyalty to Local Power vs Integrity Before God
  • Medieval vs Modern
  • Shiite vs Sunni
  • Sub-National Culture vs National Identity

Choosing up sides is no game in war zones.

For many, the telling of a loyal lie would appear to feel both more comfortable and survivable than telling the truth (if this were not so, anti-Semitic libel would not exist); for as many more, political discomfort or greed — one, the other, or both — serve to influence immediate alliance: In fact, criminal actors all along the cutting edges of these conflicts leverage choice their way through direct confrontation, false praise, intimidation, and patronage, speaking of which . . . .

Methods

  • Assassination and Theft
  • Leverage and Intimidation
  • Manipulation and Patronage

Mafia is the way of both the “God Mob” and the “Anti-God Mob” — i.e., the communist drive to obtain control over the productive assets and capacities of others.

Tools

  • Banners, Scripts, and Programs
  • Committees, Gangs, Organizations, Patrols
  • Hardware and Software

Banners, scripts, and programs serve manipulation by piratical personalities.

Whether or not the same buy their own ranting, all despots amass immense power over others — and wealth thereby — on the basis of whom may be intimidated and who seduced to their designs.  The banner is their cover; the script is that which plays in their heads on the stage of which each is the star of their own show; and the program is what is to be sold to or imposed on others for control by themselves.

The rest is about social violence, much produced by way of the mouth, and in the theaters of war, much more effect produced by violence.

Call it “big picture” or merely “bloviating prose”, the world would seem to wade in blood beneath the elements noted.

To form up societies capable of expelling the criminal would seem to require first and foremost idealism and integrity — behavior and performance bound to the more magnanimous of time-honored principles — in whatever area-wide or regional security system exists, and then that element has to prove effective in securing a whole constituency to the effect that any may offer up intelligence or call in a crime with confidence in the institutional forces serving their own defense.

Islamic Small Wars, reformation

“Dear Mr. President, I must tell you that you are wrong about ISIL. You said ISIL speaks for no religion. I am a former Muslim. My dad is an imam. I have spent more than 20 years studying Islam. … I can tell you with confidence that ISIL speaks for Islam. … ISIL’s 10,000 members are all Muslims. … They come from different countries and have one common denominator: Islam. They are following Islam’s Prophet Muhammad in every detail. … They have called for a caliphate, which is a central doctrine in Sunni Islam.”

He continued: “I ask you, Mr. President, to stop being politically correct . . . .

The hijacking doesn’t just take place through protest marches and conferences. A Wisconsin Ojibwa Indian told me of her fear of the inroads Muslims have made in the local native communities, marrying Indian women and then using their new status to gain influence in native affairs and policies. An expert in Southwest Indian art claims that Lebanese, Syrian and Palestinian Arabs have been buying Aboriginal American art businesses in Arizona and New Mexico, then selling “Navajo” art made in the Philippines. When I asked him to write about this for our publication he refused, not even wanting his name mentioned. “People have been killed,” he explained.

The world that needs to do something is the world itself, and there’s plenty of it to overwhelm every corner of Islamic Jihad. However, two of the superpowers are invested in despotism themselves — China, quietly; Russia, now famously — and whether in Syria or Iraq, the middle that wished to become modern either has not had the wherewithal to power itself or, as where ISIS has penetrated, remains deeply committed to a deeply medieval script and teleology. Add some Really Big Money to the formula plus bribes and intimidation — don’t leave out the most parochial interests — and no one moves.

In the lawless, also, there is of course an ethical and moral lostness. The Qur’an read as explicit instruction and untempered by the presence of a greater human conscience affords zero navigational assistance. The black flag of piracy flies where there is no conscionable law.

The inspiration for the above comment:

They have been subjected to physical and sexual violence, including systematic rape and sex slavery. They’ve been exposed in markets in Mosul and in Raqqa, Syria, carrying price tags.

That the Islamic State has enslaved Yazidi women and children it captured is an established fact. For example, a United Nations report found that “300 [Yazidi] women had been forced into slavery.” Now, in its slick multi-language journal Dabiq, the terrorist group offers its theological justification for this practice.

But one ugly, deadly and recurrent reality check persists: genocide. Genocide has occurred so often and so uncontested in the last fifty years that an epithet more apt in describing recent events than the oft-chanted “Never Again” is in fact “Again and Again.” The gap between the promise and the practice of the last fifty years is dispiriting indeed. How can this be?

“Early this morning we found those corpses and we have been told by some Islamic State militants that ‘those people are from Sahwa, who fought your brothers the Islamic State, and this is the punishment of anybody fighting Islamic State’,” an eyewitness said.

Noam is a bright little boy who got a lot of attention in the campus-borne movements of the Vietnam Era, and he’s been loyal to causes and figures throughout at the expense of honesty and integrity.

This catches up with him as linguistics proves larger and more surprising than even himself (reference: Daniel Everett, linguistics) and as the absurdities in his position become glaring.

I had a friend suggest to me this morning that VEVAK, the Iranian intelligence service, has leveraged private money in KSA and Qatar to seed ISIS and is using the same to drain US-NATO resources, overrun Sunni Islam, and then lend itself to the same behind-the-curtains methods used to get it started but in the end to take it apart, finish it off, and leave the Islamic Devilution in Iran in charge of a larger world and its wealth (look-up: “Setad, Iran”).

Well, why not?

It makes as much sense as Chomsky’s disingenuous New Old Now Old Far Out and Lost Left patter.

Source of inspiration:

http://topinfopost.com/2014/10/06/noam-chomsky-the-united-states-created-isis – 10/6/2014.

War by proxy, war planning behind the curtains, hijacked religions, hijacked states (including perhaps the United States of America by a Manchurian Obama) appear to be themes playing in the background of the Islamic Small Wars.

What are the world’s secret security services and intelligence operations doing . . . right now?

?

And is Obama addressing ISIS as an acute challenge deserving sorties while Iraqi Sunni and Shiite communities sort themselves out far enough to enlarge the scale and scope of the war or get around it (together) now?

Have the Ayatollah and the capitalist and piratical Setad umbrella become powerful enough to blackmail or otherwise manipulate pockets of private wealth in Saudi Arabia and Qatar?

BackChannels will refuse right here to pull an Alex Jones on you and fly whirlybird style into thin air, but there is the region of the hidden, private, and shameful (probably) in which politics takes place off stage and lives are destroyed in the maniacal gathering of power to an immense fragile malignancy.

Pair for entertainment: VEVAK : ISIS

There will be records, and when it’s all over some day, perhaps we will be able to read them together.

FTAC – Adjusted Western Engagement In the Islamic Small Wars

Islamic Small Wars, Obama's insouciance, political psychology, politics

My friends in Islam are wrestling with what to do with ISIS, and the talk is not about joining.

Some are trying to find their way between persecution as Shiites and cooperation with Sunni Kurdish Peshmerga, for example. We don’t appreciate the crevasses in multiple self-concepts (x religion x sect x nation x locality x external relationships) involved in making what are both political and personal military decisions.

By way of mistaken aggregation, simple prejudice may misguide our perception of true states of affairs.

On the Sunni side in the middle east, every stable regime plus every peaceful human subscribed by legacy now finds status divided according to the word of Baghdadi: either accept his authority as caliph to rule over all Islam or prepare for battle with his forces. The irony of that possession has a cosmic ghastliness to it: who among theocratic or clerically authorized autocrats would not claim the same favor and infallibility?

The President’s lank position, so far, is to leave the matter of becoming resolved up to Muslims involved de facto in these wars, albeit with the exception of either protecting patently American assets, as in Iraq, or encouraging the moderate among the revolutionary forces assailing Assad in Syria. If boundaries are broached, as has happened some in Israel’s Golan, then additional measures have to be taken to maintain the geographical parameter of the heavy fighting (associated terrorism in foreign lands then becomes the province of established government agencies developed to address domestic threats).

I think Obama’s play between personal engagement and insouciant disengagement is a part of his stage management: why shouldn’t the rest of the world, and as it yearns to be free, police and defend itself?

People make up their minds about the world and themselves as they go along.  Culture, experience, and information both lead and push all of us down or chosen or programmed paths, but left alone in mind, the mind has its own life and, predominantly, survival mission: it faces quandaries posed by the malignant, and often it fails and becomes the patsy or tool of the vicious; sometimes too, it rises to the occasion and takes a giant step forward from where it has been pinned by history, circumstance, and time.

Israel-Kurd Magazine, Issue No. 1 – 2009

There is some horrible news out of Kurdistan today. Ekurd.net reports that Mawloud Afand, editor of an Israel-Kurdish magazine called Israel Kurd “disappeared ten days ago in [the] Kurdistan region of Iraq.” Israeli news sources say he was kidnapped by Iranian intelligence in the city of Sulaimaniyah. Ekurd.net claims that Iran had told the Kurdish government to shut Israel Kurd down and it refused.

Related: http://www.commentarymagazine.com/topic/israel-kurd-magazine/ – 7/16/2012.

ERBIL-Hewlêr, Kurdistan region ‘Iraq’, — A number of Israeli political experts say Israel will be among the countries that would support Iraqi Kurdistan if it declared independence. They also suggest that Kurdistan not make the decision hastily and ensure the grounds are properly prepared first, Rudaw reported

http://www.ekurd.net/mismas/articles/misc2012/5/state6172.htm 5/1/2012.

Furthermore, with their initial sale last week of a tanker full of oil, to Israel no less, the Kurds have shown that they are willing not just to cleave themselves from Baghdad but to stand as a magnanimous force for stability in the region.

According to numerous reports by Reuters, Bloomberg and the Wall Street Journal, the tanker SCF Altai transferred a cargo of Kurdish oil from another tanker United Emblem, which had been plying the Mediterranean for two weeks after loading at the Turkish port of Ceyhan. The SCF Altai then docked at the Israeli city of Ashkelon and off-loaded its crude.

In 1966, Iraqi defense minister Abd al-Aziz al-Uqayli blamed the Kurds of Iraq for seeking to establish “a second Israel” in the Middle East. He also claimed that “the West and the East are supporting the rebels to create [khalq] a new Israeli state in the north of the homeland as they had done in 1948 when they created Israel. It is as if history is repeating itself.”

http://www.meforum.org/3838/israel-kurds – Summer 2014.

What attracts me to a story like this one is the possibility of encouraging and securing ethnic self-determination for a true ethnic minority.  In that regard, Kurds and Israelis may understand one another.  The above scholarly piece by Ofra Bengio goes into detail on the history of the Kurdish-Israeli relationship, and that in turn informs just a little bit how it has turned out that members of the Kurdish community seeing an Israeli group in Lafayette Park (in front of the White House) would (naturally) join them in solidarity.

Comment on the Missing Armies of the Muddled

intelligence, Islamic Small Wars, ISW, military, political moderates

Obama has given MB plenty of room for operating and for being observed. As he is not a President for Life, the stronger elements that comprise our government will survive him and probably be able to use the knowledge gained during his tenure. I would fear as much a flip toward the extreme Right in America. We really need a central, progressive, and prudent politics, and the zealots in politics have really skewed the conversation away from the middle ranks. That needs fixing, so I am becoming a Passionate Moderate Liberal.

The above comes not from The Awesome Conversation but rather from private correspondence.

As with the polarizing of American politics, which so far remain civil, a glance at the hot conflicts within the Islamic Small Wars campus tell a tale about the possession of armies in the name of the people: Syria just didn’t have one.

Bashar the Butcher al-Assad had an army.

Every band of mixed pedigree with heavy jihad on its mind made itself an army.

The greater portion of the population of Syria, which numbers above six million internally displace and refugee: no army — no defense — nothing against the state’s military power or the ruthless ambition of spoilers ambitious for plunder, rape, and rapine beneath their black banners.

*

Iraq appeared to have had an army before ISIS bore down on it and got it to jump out of its boots and uniforms, so it may be said that moderate Sunnis, Chaldean Christians, and the Yezedis also had no more army in Iraq than they would have had in Syria.

To its credit plus the rightful defensive stance of Shiites looking north toward Sunni extremists, it might be said that Baghdad, finally, has an army, and it’s moving but with the pace known to other armies challenged by Islamist irregulars.  Even with an army formed to defend the middle humanity of a state, the same would seem to need an army of detectives to deal with the state’s major irritants.

What I Have Said About the Jews

My people, not that I speak for them, I nonetheless describe as a "global ethnic commune with its heart in Jerusalem and soul in the Land of Israel."

We have never given up on God, nor have we ever given up on one another.

Many things we have given up, but no one misses, say, animal sacrifice, and as many things we have kept, so we have still to welcome our Sabbath on Friday at sunset and to rest all of Saturday until three stars appear in the sky.

Most of all, through 5,773 years, wherever life has taken us, through the greatest triumphs and the most awful tragedies, we have preserved our tribal identity and soul, and so shall we continue eternally.

Anti-Semitism / Anti-Zionism = Signal of Fascism

I may suggest that anti-Zionism / anti-Semitism are signal (a little bit) of fascist urges, and the Left -- I'm an old liberal: I know my heart -- has been vulnerable to manipulation by what appears to me as a "Red Brown Green Alliance" driven by a handful of powerful autocrats intent on sustaining a medieval worldview in service to their own glorification. (And there I will stop).
One hopes for knowledge to allay fear; one hopes for love to overmatch hate.

Too often, the security found in the parroting of a loyal lie outweighs the integrity to be earned in confronting and voicing an uncomfortable truth.

Those who make their followers believe absurdities may also make them commit atrocities.

“Revisionism” is the most contemptible path that power takes to abet theft and hide shame by attempting to alter public perception of past events.

On Press Freedom, Commentary, and Journalism

In the free world, talent -- editors, graphic artists, researchers, writers -- gravitate toward the organizations that suit their interests and values. The result: high integrity and highly reliable reportage and both responsible and thoughtful reasoning.

This is not to suggest that partisan presses don't exist or that propaganda doesn't exist in the west, but any reader possessed of critical thinking ability and genuine independence -- not bought, not programmed -- is certainly free to evaluate the works of earnest reporters and scholars.
