These two characteristics, like the apologists, only end up serving entrenching the global jihad and its Islamist monopoly from which the alt-jihadists claim to want to save the world.

The alt-jihad consists of non-Muslims who refuse to leave room for even the remote possibility of branding Islam and any faithful Muslims into modernity. The alt-jihad is simple, simplistic, self-serving and dangerous. It attempts to deny Muslim dissidents any space, hope, or support whatsoever we so urgently need to make headway.

Their parroting of Islamist tyrannical rhetoric and their slash-and-burn approach only strengthens the hold Islamist extremists have on Muslim communities. The alt-jihad does not sincerely seek for Muslims to find solutions to the problems plaguing our communities, but rather seeks the containment, if not the elimination, of Islam as a faith. Some even seem to advocate that this happen “by any means necessary.” For the alt-jihad, there is no hope for modernization of Islam – there are terrorist Muslims, and terrorist Muslims-in-waiting.

Don’t take BackChannels’ word for it.  Go directly to the Source: There’s An Emerging ‘Alt-Jihad’ Movement In The U.S. – But It’s Not Muslims Who Are Pushing It…

This is just not a story about a hothead who had an argument with someone at work, steamed home to get his gun, came back, and shot the bastard with whom he’d been fighting. This is a story about a couple with a developed arsenal, pipe bombs, and bomb-making supplies. Add: her passport; his recent beard; foreign travel.

The White House has consistently refused being drawn into the position of the “crusader west”, and we as a nation, so I hope, have refused agitation from the Left / Far Left and the provocation of division such acts promote; however, people take steps that aggregate to alter the political landscape.

The Putiin-Khamenei assault on NATO involves — just my opinion — the encouragement of fascist nationalism (as has been seen in Hungary throughout Orban’s leadership and made more clear in relation to that state’s treatment of the Syrian refugees) in line with the feudal statement implicit in Russian, Syrian, and Iranian politics — “mafia states” each one. Few things promote a Far Right response quite like events associated with “Islamic Terrorism”. The “Feudalists” use someone else’s terrorist ambitions (model: “Assad AND The Terrorists”) to manipulate the political atmosphere in the states they have targeted.

One expects authorities to drag out the call on the deadly assault in San Bernardino, but BackChannels would be surprised if the tactical costuming, the SUV gunship, and the arsenal at home turned out to be hobby related. 🙂  Nonetheless, one expects and therefore leaves the involved governments to lead in criminal matters and any associated foreign affairs.

On BackChannels, mention of KGB-style political theater in “Assad vs The Terrorists” AKA “Assad OR The Terrorists” and now “Assad AND The Terrorists” has developed its own packet of online analysis, some on the blog, some elsewhere, e.g., Kyle Orton’s “How Assad Funds the Islamic State” appearing in The Syrian Intifada, November 29, 2015.

Regarding the phrase, ” . . . people take steps that aggregate to alter the political landscape,” BackChannels had in mind Florida Gun Supply’s refusal to sell arms to Muslim customers.

Motivation?

On Wikipedia: “List of Islamist Terrorist Attacks“; from the anti-Jihad “Religion of Peace” web site, “Islamic Terror Attacks on American Soil” (the chart already includes the shooting in San Bernardino).

What is the public supposed to think?

How is the public supposed to respond?

As noted in the excerpt From the Awesome Conversation, the national response to injury is to swell — as does the body with a wound — but with nationalist pride and determination.

Also taking place today: the outcome of the American Forum for Democracy’s Summit in Washington, D.C., press conference at the National Press Building, which started 30 minutes ago.

Three Links – Two Thoughts by “The Last English Prince” +

anti-Jihad, Islam, Islamism, religion, religiosity

I have discussed this issue with two Islamic lawyers. One man is part of an Islamic Tribunal. The second, received his law degree from Damascus. These rulings are applicable in a modern age. There was no backing down, when I pressed hard for a logical explanation. The age of nine years was also given as a legal age for men to have intercourse with little girls.

Swofford, Tammy.  “The Rape of American Hostage Kayla Mueller by Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.”  The Last English Prince, August 15, 2015.

Two schools of thought exist regarding apostasy. One school of thought is that an apostate Muslim must be killed immediately with the sword. The second school of thought allows the apostate to be secured alone for three days and given a chance to repent. If unrepentant, the individual can be clubbed to death. This clubbing, just might make the person repent before being beaten to a pulp. This ruling comes from a companion of one of the four great Islamic jurists, ash-Shafi’i.

Swofford, Tammy.  “Islam: Death for Apostasy.”  The Last English Prince, August 17, 2015

That the religion of Islam lends itself TODAY to such criticism bodes ill yet for Muslims and others.  As loud as outrage has become toward Daesh, which purports to represent the Islam presented by Muhammad, not one Muslim army has risen to crush it and crush away its barbarism (this despite some Big Talk from Jordan).  Instead, the Kurdish community, which has to defend its own ethnolinguistic culture against Islamic aggressors (Turkey is the other), has proven the most effective army in the field; granted, Iraq’s Shiite militia infused with Iranian Revolutionary Guard have also gone up against their old familiar but transformed Baathist foes (become Daesh generals for the money dispersed by Baghdadi), but that is to sustain Shiite vs Sunni animus to the benefit of the career and legitimacy of Ayatollah Khamenei.

Contemporary Islamic humanists, reformers, rethinkers, revisionists, secularists have certainly emerged on the world’s sociopolitical radar (M. Zuhdi Jasser, Qanta Ahmed, Irshad Manji, Tarek Fatah, Sultan Shahin [New Age Islam]), but their names are yet young in history, and they too are in a kind of intellectual cradle within a universe of exegetical counterpoint to the al-Qaeda Typicals and the Hezbollah Viruses.

Abstract or dimensional variables associated with argument around “Islamism” or “Political Islam” may include conservatism, fascism, inflexibility, liberalism, narcissism, and religiosity, each term begging its own build-out in meaning.  High intensity emotion, narcissism, obsessive focus, and rigidity — in one word: “intolerance” — begs disaster every time out as nature appear to prefer across flora, fauna, and human culture and thought abundance, adjustment, and variety.

(CNN)I am an observant Muslim. And because I am a Muslim, I believe in pluralism. I believe in tolerance. These are the beliefs that Islamist totalitarians are determined to extinguish in the world as they oppress and brutalize those they deem to be “the other.”

Guided by a false, supposedly Islamic doctrine, ISIS has enslaved and systematically raped Yazidi women and young girls. These crimes, described last week by The New York Times, are the latest example of how Islamism defiles Islam. This travesty crosses new thresholds of human depravity: holding pens for humans, busy slave markets, the bureaucratic herding, bidding and buying of Yazidi women and girls. ISIS demands that we confront these new horrors.

Ahmed, Qanta.  “When bigots use ISIS atrocities to smear all Muslims.”  CNN, August 18, 2015.

A Short Note – The American Anti-Jihad and CAIR

Without political agenda and related reportage, probably half of Washington, D.C.’s offices would be empty.

Perhaps.

🙂

What one may have in addition to motives, including patronage from parties that have literally earned the right to pay for influence in no way different from any other political or industrial interest, are the ways and the means.

For the most part, in fact, as much should be expected and welcomed within the framework of debatable ideas and policies.

The democratic open societies prize tough cultural and legislative debates.

However that may be, in addition to tough battles driven by tough questions entertained in open forums, two dimensions in modern life would seem to bear down on Jihad / anti-Jihad tensions:

1) democratic and humanist values and virtues;

2) empirical methods and practices in debate and research.

Out of that intersection may come the observation of “Fair Play” vs “Mafia Tactics” — and fair play, from Pharaoh’s day to this one, is all that all of the the fighting is about from the western values side.

On the other side are myriad sides reflecting both the want of power as well as the lust for power, all of it fractured in expression but all of it also about control, dominance, greed, and sadism: to put the fine point on it, power over others out to the limits of human comprehension and, for those who lose themselves and their humanity in bullying, theft, and mass murder, beyond.

The God Mob, however or wherever it may appear, and from whatever religion it may appear — this is not about Islam only: it’s about what I’m going to call “the humanity of humanity” and the part of it that loses the same or casts it away — needs to be recognized as an established element in some places (“You’re with us, right?” — God forbid one answers the wrong way on that one, for the consequences start with general diminishment, move on to ostracism, and end with death) and as an invasive one in others.

The catch-all signals:

  • bribery where the target’s opposed, patronage for the zealot on the right side of the dispensing hand;
  • intimidation — like former Egyptian President Morsi’s showing off Mubarak’s torture chambers and then putting them back to use! — that ramps up for the target from intimations to annoyances to threats to violent small crimes to larger ones;
  • including murder.

Along the way, one might remind too that as innocuous a thing as flattery never serves the listener although in very small confines and doses the same may keep the peace between boy and girl.

In the Facsimile Bipolar Political Sociopathy psychology that would port clinical narcissism into cultural, political, and social space, the deep manipulation of others in service to the demands for “narcissistic supply” have play.  Contempt for others, cynicism, deceptions and lies, malevolent suggestions, “gaslighting” all become part of the repertoire in behavior and method within and around the narcissist’s sphere of power.  To cover with a scrim of feigned concern, trustworthy generic comments on many things might work, for a malignant narcissist is not genuinely “in it with the people” or concerned with the constituents but with their own image and associated power.

More genuinely operating may be the “behind the curtains” machinations to arrange things.

That is the land of winks and nods, of under-the-table deals, of the word or two that changes slightly, deviously, a cultural or political landscape.

The world of pleasant surfaces and pleasing reflections belying another of backroom agreements with convoluted and obscured traces is not a good world.

Some among the paranoid would find their way to discovering that world in the most open and transparent of environments, and theirs is another lot, but even the most well grounded of souls might be brought to an abyss where surface separates from underlying forces and some things terribly wrong become visible while leaving much yet to the imagination.

_____

CAIR’s public mission is legitimate, and in public it will win some points within American jurisprudence and policy making and lose some too.

What seems to concern the anti-Jihad and so-called “Islamophobe” community, and will for some time to come, is the assembly of private missions and motivational drivers, many of which would seem at least mysterious, nefarious, or seditious in intents, and it is that part that calls for the slow peeling of the layers of the onion.

FNS: Tarek Fatah: “It’s Time To Fight the Doctrine of Jihad”

While ordinary Britons and non-Muslims around the world are bewildered by these never-ending acts of terrorism, the response of the leaders of the Islamic community is the tired old cliche — Islam is a religion of peace, and jihad is simply an “inner struggle.”

The fact these terrorists are motivated by one powerful belief — the doctrine of armed jihad against the “kuffar” (non-Muslims) — is disingenuously denied by Islamic clerics and leaders.

Fatah, Tarek.  “U.K. Beheading Shows: It’s Time to Fight the Doctrine of Jihad.”  The Blog – The Huffington Post, May 23, 2013.

Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger, nor acknowledge the religion of Truth, (even if they are) of the People of the Book, until they pay the Jizya with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued.

By way of Wikipedia and from the translation of the Quran by Yusuf Ali.

I submit to you: a problem in the head remains a problem in language.

Not that there aren’t other combined biological and cognitive issues involved in the psychological organization of each person and then each person’s expression as a social spirit and member of our universally gregarious species.

I don’t know if we may be hurrying to discuss some things so far kept in the wings and given keen attention by “Islamists” and “anti-Jihadists” both.

Tom Trento of The United West:

M. Zuhdi Jasser (American Islamic Forum for Democracy):

Tarek Fatah

Tarek Fatah founded the Muslim Canadian Congress, so here I’ve continued on to a clip featuring Salma Siddiqui, a past president and current member of the board with that organization.

Evidently the conversation has been joined for a while, but there’s a difference between taking a stance and developing an evolutionary path in language away from disaster and transforming some portion (remember: the proportions  shimmer) of an enormous population in such a way that it takes responsibility for its fate and becomes reasoning and reasonable and just in its ethics and in its efforts to improve the local and regional qualities — physical, psychological, and spiritual — of living.

Islam, that “old time religion” part of it, at least, contains a trump card for play against the progressives and reformers: generations of investment in belief in the divine delivery of the Quran and in the holiness of Muhammad.

What I Have Said About the Jews

My people, not that I speak for them, I nonetheless describe as a "global ethnic commune with its heart in Jerusalem and soul in the Land of Israel."

We have never given up on God, nor have we ever given up on one another.

Many things we have given up, but no one misses, say, animal sacrifice, and as many things we have kept, so we have still to welcome our Sabbath on Friday at sunset and to rest all of Saturday until three stars appear in the sky.

Most of all, through 5,773 years, wherever life has taken us, through the greatest triumphs and the most awful tragedies, we have preserved our tribal identity and soul, and so shall we continue eternally.

Anti-Semitism / Anti-Zionism = Signal of Fascism

I may suggest that anti-Zionism / anti-Semitism are signal (a little bit) of fascist urges, and the Left -- I'm an old liberal: I know my heart -- has been vulnerable to manipulation by what appears to me as a "Red Brown Green Alliance" driven by a handful of powerful autocrats intent on sustaining a medieval worldview in service to their own glorification. (And there I will stop).
One hopes for knowledge to allay fear; one hopes for love to overmatch hate.

Too often, the security found in the parroting of a loyal lie outweighs the integrity to be earned in confronting and voicing an uncomfortable truth.

Those who make their followers believe absurdities may also make them commit atrocities.

Positively Orwellian: Comment Responding to Claim that the Arab Assault on Israel in 1948 Had Not Intended Annihilation

“Revisionism” is the most contemptible path that power takes to abet theft and hide shame by attempting to alter public perception of past events.

On Press Freedom, Commentary, and Journalism

In the free world, talent -- editors, graphic artists, researchers, writers -- gravitate toward the organizations that suit their interests and values. The result: high integrity and highly reliable reportage and both responsible and thoughtful reasoning.

This is not to suggest that partisan presses don't exist or that propaganda doesn't exist in the west, but any reader possessed of critical thinking ability and genuine independence -- not bought, not programmed -- is certainly free to evaluate the works of earnest reporters and scholars.
