This page may turn out a work in civilizational regress as so many leftward and youthful peacocks climb the virtual barricades “in solidarity” with the Palestinians, eliminating economic development and jobs, fostering Arab apartheid politics (check out those holding pens called “camps” in Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria), and serving Hamas billionaires, among others, along their disinformed way (ah, but that’s what youth is for).

Christy Anastas — From the Middle East Conflict — “Stories Not Told to the World” — A Christian Voice

The content dates from Spring 2014, and some of it has been well reviewed, but I feel it still worth a listen and a look.

______

A video was uploaded onto YouTube which featured a young Palestinian Christian woman describing what it was like to live under Israel military occupation. If that was all the video was about, it would have simply been added to the thousands of other YouTube videos which describe the same thing. What made Christy Anastas’ video unique was that she bravely revealed how Palestinian Christians have and are being treated by Palestinian Muslims and nationalists.

http://thefederalist.com/2014/05/01/what-happens-when-a-palestinian-doesnt-hate-israel-enough/ – 5/1/2014.

Christy Anastas: “I believe in people, not concrete.”

Posted to YouTube – 4/25/2014.

On the whereabouts of Christy Anastas —

Christy Anastas, the 24-year-old woman who has fled the West Bank (where a journalist was recently sentenced to a year in prison for mocking Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Mahmoud Abbas on Facebook), will present herself for inspection at a police station in England on the morning of April 29, 2014.

Why?

Because a self-styled “peace and justice” activist has called the police in England, informing the authorities that she may be a “missing person.” Consequently, Christy will present herself at a police station somewhere in England this morning to assure them that she is not being held against her will.

http://blog.camera.org/archives/2014/04/christy_anastas_on_the_stone_p.html – 4/28/2014.

On PLO negotiator Saeb Erekat —

So, given that even Hamas never claimed that 96 percent of those killed were civilians, where did Erekat get this number? Again, we must admit that he simply made it up.

This is not exactly the first time: Erekat was one of the inventors of the “Jenin Massacre” in 2002. In fighting in the West Bank city, 52 Palestinians were killed, as were 23 Israeli soldiers. Yasser Arafat claimed at the time that the “Jenin Massacre” could only be compared to the siege of Stalingrad in World War II. Erekat himself said “the numbers of killed could reach 500 since the Israeli offensive began. Thousands of wounded. The Jenin refugee camp is no longer in existence, and now we’ve heard of executions there.”

There was considerable destruction in parts of the camp, but at no time did it cease to be in existence. He made that up. Does any of this matter? It does.

criticism, Islamists, narcissism

This showed up a few days ago from the CAIR-friendly side, I suppose, with a different slant but the same theme. http://time.com/104804/debunking-the-extremist-myth-that-islam-is-anti-jewish/ Narcissistic “tenderness” promotes this full-blown anti-defamation response when in fact the “anti-Jihad” writers like Steve Emerson, Pamela Geller, Robert Spencer have plenty of historic and current material with which to work.

In 2003, Daniel Pipes asked “How many Islamists?” That was the concern in the ranks of the watching back then. I would hope that after so many years with the growth of the social networks and development of a wondrously broad global intelligentsia that we may see states of affairs more clearly, and perhaps that to the effect that one may see the secular dictator and religious zealot as sharing similar personality features and the “middle, mild, and moderate” (I have my tropes) have to bond across many boundaries — economic, political, religious — to get the reins on them.

_____

Doing this “FTAC” thing is like Carson’s “Carnac” (I’m that old): you get the comment first, then the stimulus.  In this case, it was the Investigative Project on Terrorism’s latest, “Proving Our Point” (May 23, 2014).

Cultural grammar, language, political psychology, malignant narcissism — the themes come together.

* * *

I’ve a hard time staying away from this blog.

🙂

May we find peace in opposition to those who foment dissension, injustice, and violence around the world.

Shabbat Shalom.

CAIR, Spencer, Narcissism, Universalism

It is more likely that the NSA has placed everyone under surveillance in order to avoid singling out the Muslim community, so as to avoid appearing “Islamophobic.”

Hamas-linked CAIR staff attorney: Spying and surveillance “disproportionately affecting the Muslim community” : Jihad Watch – 1/27/2014.

In the above cited article, Robert Spencer catalogs criminals, crimes, and attempted crimes, all connected to Islamic Jihad, and he goes on to document incendiary speech by Muslim notables.

Related and highly recommended: The Threat from Within: What Is the Scope of Homegrown Terrorism? – 7/1/2012.  Posted by the ABA Journal, the abstract at the top read, “Gordon Lederman, chief counsel for national security and investigations of the U.S. Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, and Kate Martin, director of the nonprofit Center for National Security Studies, ponder how we should weigh security against liberty.

Wikipedia’s brief and nonpartisan historic overview of terrorism in the United States: Terrorism in the United States – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

We’ve a long way to go as regards the self-destructive “specialness” in play within at least a part of Islam’s advocacy community in the U.S., not to mention elsewhere militant Islamist organizations — the al-Qaeda affiliates — active in the fields of the Islamic Small Wars from Afghanistan to Somalia, but in the American way, principles developed to address such conflict have to be conceived for universal applicability.

* * *

As an aside, sometimes in unrelated conversation, the matter of having to deal with an aggressive, evil, and large force in life, say, for example, a bullying father or an abusive husband or a sadistic employer, and so on, comes up, and what I suggest goes like this: to the Jew, the Nazi is a problem; however, the character of the Nazi is not the Jew’s problem — it’s the Nazi’s problem.

For Nazi, substitute “asshole”, “bully”, “dictator”, and so on.

What the overbearing asshole (bully, dictator, malignant narcissist) flying under the Jolly Rodger of his kind has for a problem is himself as reinforced and made inescapable by his own bombast accompanied or followed by criminal or malicious and irretrievable, and irreversible action.  Such personalities talk themselves, their admirers, and their cronies into an evil corner, and there they live with their bigotry, contempt, and crimes, including war crimes for those who come to own and drive their own states, until other forces, sadly including natural death, come to dispossess them.

FNS – Raymond Ibrahim on Islam in History and Western Revisionist Misguidance

Were the Dark Ages truly benighted because of the “suffocating” forces of Christianity? Or were these dark ages—which “coincidentally” occurred during the same centuries when jihad was constantly harrying Europe—a product of another suffocating religion? Was the Spanish Inquisition a reflection of Christian barbarism or was it a reflection of Christian desperation vis-à-vis the hundreds of thousands of Muslims who, while claiming to have converted to Christianity, were practicing taqiyya and living as moles trying to subvert the Christian nation back to Islam?

Surreal and Suicidal: Modern Western Histories of Islam | Raymond Ibrahim – 10/3/2013.

A gentle deflection of argument entails labeling the criticism as having to do with “POLITICAL Islam” as opposed to some other, but with now quite a few Islamic autocracies roiling in blood, suffering, and suppression, one may ask what part of Islam is not political? The bravery expressed and inherent in Islamic humanists and reformers should not be underestimated in their efforts to influence and shape a different future for Muslims, but the barbaric aspects in history and legacy may drag at their heels nonetheless.

In the above article, Ibraham reminds me of Oriana Fallaci and her ever honest and firm pen on the matter as well as contemporary Giulio Meotti‘s equally steadfast scholarship.

FNS: Tarek Fatah: “It’s Time To Fight the Doctrine of Jihad”

While ordinary Britons and non-Muslims around the world are bewildered by these never-ending acts of terrorism, the response of the leaders of the Islamic community is the tired old cliche — Islam is a religion of peace, and jihad is simply an “inner struggle.”

The fact these terrorists are motivated by one powerful belief — the doctrine of armed jihad against the “kuffar” (non-Muslims) — is disingenuously denied by Islamic clerics and leaders.

Fatah, Tarek.  “U.K. Beheading Shows: It’s Time to Fight the Doctrine of Jihad.”  The Blog – The Huffington Post, May 23, 2013.

Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger, nor acknowledge the religion of Truth, (even if they are) of the People of the Book, until they pay the Jizya with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued.

By way of Wikipedia and from the translation of the Quran by Yusuf Ali.

I submit to you: a problem in the head remains a problem in language.

Not that there aren’t other combined biological and cognitive issues involved in the psychological organization of each person and then each person’s expression as a social spirit and member of our universally gregarious species.

I don’t know if we may be hurrying to discuss some things so far kept in the wings and given keen attention by “Islamists” and “anti-Jihadists” both.

Tom Trento of The United West:

M. Zuhdi Jasser (American Islamic Forum for Democracy):

Tarek Fatah

Tarek Fatah founded the Muslim Canadian Congress, so here I’ve continued on to a clip featuring Salma Siddiqui, a past president and current member of the board with that organization.

Evidently the conversation has been joined for a while, but there’s a difference between taking a stance and developing an evolutionary path in language away from disaster and transforming some portion (remember: the proportions  shimmer) of an enormous population in such a way that it takes responsibility for its fate and becomes reasoning and reasonable and just in its ethics and in its efforts to improve the local and regional qualities — physical, psychological, and spiritual — of living.

Islam, that “old time religion” part of it, at least, contains a trump card for play against the progressives and reformers: generations of investment in belief in the divine delivery of the Quran and in the holiness of Muhammad.

Epigram

Hillel the Elder

"That which is distasteful to thee do not do to another. That is the whole of Torah. The rest is commentary. Now go and study."

"If I am not for myself, who will be for me? If I am not for others, what am I? If not now, when?"

"Whosoever destroys a soul, it is considered as if he destroyed an entire world. And whosoever that saves a life, it is considered as if he saved an entire world."

Oriana Fallaci
"Whether it comes from a despotic sovereign or an elected president, from a murderous general or a beloved leader, I see power as an inhuman and hateful phenomenon...I have always looked on disobedience toward the oppressive as the only way to use the miracle of having been born."

Talmud 7:16 as Quoted by Rishon Rishon in 2004
Qohelet Raba, 7:16

אכזרי סוף שנעשה אכזרי במקום רחמן

Kol mi shena`asa rahaman bimqom akhzari Sof shena`asa akhzari bimqom rahaman

All who are made to be compassionate in the place of the cruel In the end are made to be cruel in the place of the compassionate.

More colloquially translated: "Those who are kind to the cruel, in the end will be cruel to the kind."

Abraham Isaac Kook

"The purely righteous do not complain about evil, rather they add justice. They do not complain about heresy, rather they add faith. They do not complain about ignorance, rather they add wisdom." From the pages of Arpilei Tohar.

Heinrich Heine
"Where books are burned, in the end people will be burned." -- From Almansor: A Tragedy (1823).

Simon Wiesenthal
Remark Made in the Ballroom of the Imperial Hotel, Vienna, Austria on the occasion of His 90th Birthday: "The Nazis are no more, but we are still here, singing and dancing."

Maimonides
"Truth does not become more true if the whole world were to accept it; nor does it become less true if the whole world were to reject it."

"The risk of a wrong decision is preferable to the terror of indecision."

Douglas Adams
"Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?" Epigram appearing in the dedication of Richard Dawkins' The GOD Delusion.

Thucydides
"The Nation that makes a great distinction between its scholars and its warriors will have its thinking done by cowards and its fighting done by fools."

Milan Kundera
"The struggle of man against power is the struggle of memory against forgetting."

Malala Yousafzai
“The terrorists thought that they would change our aims and stop our ambitions but nothing changed in my life except this: weakness, fear and hopelessness died. Strength, power and courage was born.”

Tanit Nima Tinat
"Who could die of love?"

What I Have Said About the Jews

My people, not that I speak for them, I nonetheless describe as a "global ethnic commune with its heart in Jerusalem and soul in the Land of Israel."

We have never given up on God, nor have we ever given up on one another.

Many things we have given up, but no one misses, say, animal sacrifice, and as many things we have kept, so we have still to welcome our Sabbath on Friday at sunset and to rest all of Saturday until three stars appear in the sky.

Most of all, through 5,773 years, wherever life has taken us, through the greatest triumphs and the most awful tragedies, we have preserved our tribal identity and soul, and so shall we continue eternally.

Anti-Semitism / Anti-Zionism = Signal of Fascism

I may suggest that anti-Zionism / anti-Semitism are signal (a little bit) of fascist urges, and the Left -- I'm an old liberal: I know my heart -- has been vulnerable to manipulation by what appears to me as a "Red Brown Green Alliance" driven by a handful of powerful autocrats intent on sustaining a medieval worldview in service to their own glorification. (And there I will stop).
One hopes for knowledge to allay fear; one hopes for love to overmatch hate.

Too often, the security found in the parroting of a loyal lie outweighs the integrity to be earned in confronting and voicing an uncomfortable truth.

Those who make their followers believe absurdities may also make them commit atrocities.

Positively Orwellian: Comment Responding to Claim that the Arab Assault on Israel in 1948 Had Not Intended Annihilation

“Revisionism” is the most contemptible path that power takes to abet theft and hide shame by attempting to alter public perception of past events.

On Press Freedom, Commentary, and Journalism

In the free world, talent -- editors, graphic artists, researchers, writers -- gravitate toward the organizations that suit their interests and values. The result: high integrity and highly reliable reportage and both responsible and thoughtful reasoning.

This is not to suggest that partisan presses don't exist or that propaganda doesn't exist in the west, but any reader possessed of critical thinking ability and genuine independence -- not bought, not programmed -- is certainly free to evaluate the works of earnest reporters and scholars.
