The pilot’s success in becoming a pilot should have been Gabriel Pasternak’s revenge.

All else: common murder.

https://conflict-backchannels.com/2015/05/15/nancy-hartevelt-kobrin-listening-reflecting-comprehending-speaking/

Fair for lookup: “maternal cameo”.

Kobrin’s a little challenging for reading, but the manner of taking others into one’s own suicide in suicide terrorism has been well documented and explored.

Everyone has complaints: perhaps the pilot in the above video should have asked himself for greater insight into his own behavioral repertoire, so as not to have alienated so many others — and then blamed them for his continuing his own unhappiness.

Of course some parts of the world grind against us, but our souls battle back with constructive ends and ideals.

While the pilot had found fault with everyone on that plane, the same passengers may have missed the pilot who could just as well have gone on to tweak his “ugly duckling” music into a beautiful swan — then too, with the money he must have been making as a pilot, imagine if he had used his new wealth to attend to more children like himself, how amazing the things they may have gone on to do.

Instead, he took himself out of the picture and drew the hate and want of revenge from all of the families and friends associated with all of the passengers on board his flight.

Regarding the pilot’s “awful music” —

“Brotality” promotes itself on facebook as an entertainment organization.

BackChannels readers are welcome to look them up and drawn their own conclusions.

The Urban Dictionary offers two or three definitions today of the term “brotality“, among them this gem — “When a real hard ass bro kills someone, mortal kombat style. ‘Bro’ being the prefix and ‘tality’ being the suffix.”

Palestinian alternative activist Mudar Zahran made the connection earlier today between proponents of the anti-Israel BDS movement and Nazis outright — and, of course, he’s spot-on as regards the truth of that — and Canadian professor Linda Feldman had elsewhere and moments prior mentioned the work of Mo Asumang, a German celebrity – “filmmaker, actress, and tv presenter” – who recently has produced a body of work about the being and meaning of “Aryan”.

“Our religion should be us.  You’re a white man, you’re a god in yourself, stand up and fight for your race . . . .” (1:14)

Related around here: “malignant narcissism“.

In psychology, there may be another aspect in being that intuitively discovers, evolves, and revolves around core identity themes, but whether and to what extent we concern ourselves with our respective legacies in culture, language, race, and religion in the development of individual self-concept seem to me questions quite open but rapidly closing on the race card.

In fact, that theme begs another question: “Is that all you’ve got?”

There is always a great deal else in that noggin — anyone’s — too.

FTAC – Admonition to “Reclaim the Heritage of the Land”

The question posed by citizens of a developing state had to do with defending it from “Islamist” spoilers and their thoughts about ultimate cultural programming, a path abhorred by all but themselves.  My response:

” . . . a culture, any, I believe, IS its language, and its language contains ITS stories, ITS art, ITS theater, ITS dance, ITS customs, and most important and never to be displaced or replaced: ITS Literature. Books. Legends. Folk tales. Poems. Songs. IF the overlay of a colonizing or imperial or even religious culture — any — has dimmed the vibrancy of the expression of the earth through its evolving human complement, THEN one might consider taking a good, long, and shared elegiac journey through the past and reinstalling all that charms, delights, educates, informs, and refreshes the culture, rightly grounded, literally, to come in time and to become itself.

How is that for a different kind of “civilizational mission”?

My suggestion to you: reclaim in modern form the authentic heritage of the land.”

Also referenced in the conversation: American Transcendentalism and Vine Deloria, Jr.’s God is Red.

I’ve not wish to see English echoed in another language but, with peace, to enjoy the emergence of a reinvigorated foreign language, one more capable of serving the needs of cultural vibrancy born of the soil and coursing through the blood alive with it and in love with it too.

Let Colorado be Colorado, says I, and then may the people of every village and state revel in the mountains, plains, and rivers of their birth and ancestry.

FNS – Tammy Swofford – “Spider Webs” – About National Self-Concept

It occurred to me that humans are quite similar to the spider population. Each of us spins the web of our own existence. Our world exists and finds meaning by the daily tending to the threads of our lives. These threads form our core identity and give us a sense of place in a world that now supports seven billion additional spider webs. It is important, and indeed healthy that we not be reduced to nothingness. The threads of our lives make the journey on earth worth the trip.

Epigram

Hillel the Elder

"That which is distasteful to thee do not do to another. That is the whole of Torah. The rest is commentary. Now go and study."

"If I am not for myself, who will be for me? If I am not for others, what am I? If not now, when?"

"Whosoever destroys a soul, it is considered as if he destroyed an entire world. And whosoever that saves a life, it is considered as if he saved an entire world."

Oriana Fallaci
"Whether it comes from a despotic sovereign or an elected president, from a murderous general or a beloved leader, I see power as an inhuman and hateful phenomenon...I have always looked on disobedience toward the oppressive as the only way to use the miracle of having been born."

Talmud 7:16 as Quoted by Rishon Rishon in 2004
Qohelet Raba, 7:16

אכזרי סוף שנעשה אכזרי במקום רחמן

Kol mi shena`asa rahaman bimqom akhzari Sof shena`asa akhzari bimqom rahaman

All who are made to be compassionate in the place of the cruel In the end are made to be cruel in the place of the compassionate.

More colloquially translated: "Those who are kind to the cruel, in the end will be cruel to the kind."

What I Have Said About the Jews

My people, not that I speak for them, I nonetheless describe as a "global ethnic commune with its heart in Jerusalem and soul in the Land of Israel."

We have never given up on God, nor have we ever given up on one another.

Many things we have given up, but no one misses, say, animal sacrifice, and as many things we have kept, so we have still to welcome our Sabbath on Friday at sunset and to rest all of Saturday until three stars appear in the sky.

Most of all, through 5,773 years, wherever life has taken us, through the greatest triumphs and the most awful tragedies, we have preserved our tribal identity and soul, and so shall we continue eternally.

Anti-Semitism / Anti-Zionism = Signal of Fascism

I may suggest that anti-Zionism / anti-Semitism are signal (a little bit) of fascist urges, and the Left -- I'm an old liberal: I know my heart -- has been vulnerable to manipulation by what appears to me as a "Red Brown Green Alliance" driven by a handful of powerful autocrats intent on sustaining a medieval worldview in service to their own glorification. (And there I will stop).
One hopes for knowledge to allay fear; one hopes for love to overmatch hate.

Too often, the security found in the parroting of a loyal lie outweighs the integrity to be earned in confronting and voicing an uncomfortable truth.

Those who make their followers believe absurdities may also make them commit atrocities.

Positively Orwellian: Comment Responding to Claim that the Arab Assault on Israel in 1948 Had Not Intended Annihilation

“Revisionism” is the most contemptible path that power takes to abet theft and hide shame by attempting to alter public perception of past events.

On Press Freedom, Commentary, and Journalism

In the free world, talent -- editors, graphic artists, researchers, writers -- gravitate toward the organizations that suit their interests and values. The result: high integrity and highly reliable reportage and both responsible and thoughtful reasoning.

This is not to suggest that partisan presses don't exist or that propaganda doesn't exist in the west, but any reader possessed of critical thinking ability and genuine independence -- not bought, not programmed -- is certainly free to evaluate the works of earnest reporters and scholars.
